Is there a relay or fuse for the alternator on a 2001 impala?

I recently bought a 2001 chevy impala, the car drives perfect but the alternator won't charge the battery. I bought a new alternator and still no charge, charged the battery started the car. When I disconnected the battery while car was runnging it shut off. Any ideas???
